Speaker...

Jim Nims - Director, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UOP

"Osher Lifelong Learning Institute"

Jim illustrated the motto “Curiosity Never Retires”. Now approaching it’s second year at UOP, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute provides classes, lectures, art/film/music programs, excursions and a book club as well as special events for seasoned adults, age 50+.

Jim related 6 factors of neural health as we age: engage in challenging mental tasks, good diet, physical exercise, social connection, stress reduction, and varied activity. At least half of these factors are addressed by participation in OLLI.

Due to our new understanding of neural plasticity the slogan “today’s 60’s is yesterday’s 40’s” has real credence. OLLI programs are offered at five locations: UOP, O’Conner Woods, Central United Methodist Church, Stockton, Hutchins Street Square, Lodi, and Del Webb’s Woodbridge, Manteca.

Jim Nims was introduced by Ursula Meyer.
