Speaker...
Greg Aghazarian - California Assemblyman
State Budget Perspective
Our own member and assemblyman presented his perspective on the budget problems in our State.
After eighty five days without a budget the Governor finally signed it. Greg reports that partisan politics put us in a standoff that resulted in the record setting delay. As he sees it there is no incentive for the Legislature to work together because districts are entrenched as either Republican or Democrat and the representatives are beholden to the extreme powers of either party.
Greg recommends three ways citizens can change the State Government: through initiatives, through referendums, and through a Constitutional Convention. While initiatives and referendums address only single issues, it is through Constitutional Conventions that a myriad of issues can be addressed.
Greg Aghazarian was introduced by Jerry Smith.
