Speaker...

Mark Oliver - Manteca CA, PDG

The Rotary International Foundation

Rotarian Mark Oliver holds the Annual Giving Chair position for the Rotary International Foundation. Giving to RIF is 100% voluntary and 100% of every dollar raised goes to programs. In 1917 it was suggested that Rotary form an endowment and so it was established with a $26.50 initial deposit and the first donation of $500. In 1947 the Paul Harris Memorial fund was started. In 1978 a 3H fund was started to serve Health Hunger and Humanities. In the 1980’s Polio Plus was established.

An overview of programs funded by RIF include Polio Plus grants, Matching grants, 3H programs, Educational Ambassadorial Scholarships, Group Study Exchange, and Peace & Conflict Programs. The level of Paul Harris Fellow is reached once $1000 in RIF donations has been made. Paul Harris Sustaining Member requires a consistent donation of $100 a year. And Multiple Paul Harris Fellowships are given with each $1000 increment of continued giving.

Mark concluded with many examples of the humanitarian work accomplished through programs funded with the generous donations to RIF. Through his personal giving of time and money this Rotarian has affected the lives of many Hondurans through programs providing everything from dental care to clean water, from wheelchairs to seeds of hope.

Mark Oliver was introduced by Tom Perry.
