Next Week's Program -

Peripheral Canal Threat.    Mr. Herrick was born and raised near Lodi, California.  His family was involved in farming.  He attended Cal Policy State University, San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1981 with a B.A. in History.  He later attended McGeorge School of Law graduating in 1988 with a Juris Doctorate.  His original legal practice was general business, property, and litigation.  Since 1994, he has been general counsel for the South Delta Water Agency, and his practice now concentrates on water issues.  A very critical topic for Californians.  Come and hear is talk on Wednesday.

News from Rotary International -

Bridging Worlds photo gallery. Dangling by a rope 50 feet above a swift-moving river is no easy way to go to market. That's why Ken Frantz of the Rotary Club of Newport News, Virginia, USA, is building footbridges in some of the world's most remote places in an effort to fight extreme poverty.  Read full story.

Speaker...

Dennis Smallie - Executive director of the Downtown Stockton Alliance.

Downtown Partnership Branding Proposal

Dennis, a member of our club, is the new Executive Director of the Downtown Stockton Alliance. The Alliance is a group of property and business owners who share a common vision for success in downtown Stockton. These business and property owners use their own money to fund 50% of the Alliances' budget.

Dennis outlined a plan to get Stockton “branded” as a destination point for hours, even days, of fun activities. The message is that Stockton/Downtown is a place to “Celebrate Life”. That means art, food, music, sports, theater, recreation. Given that 70% of all consumer spending in a city is done after 6PM, one area of focus is to develop evening shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities in the downtown entertainment district.

Studies demonstrate that a great city has a great downtown and Dennis gave us many ideas to better improve ours.

Dennis Smallie was introduced by Gary Putnam.
